January 09 , 2007 - For Immediate Release

VINELAND,Ontario,Canada: Royal DeMaria Wines ‘Canada’s Icewine Specialists’ has recently turned heads internationally sharing the news that they have sold a bottle of the worlds’ most expensive icewine, the Billy Myers Series - Royal DeMaria 2000 Chardonnay Icewine for an incredible $30,000.00 Canadian.

Winemaker Joseph DeMaria introduced a new series for his world class icewines in September 2006. The Billy Myers Series, named in honour of a Niagara grape grower, has drawn a lot of attention internationally stirring interests globally including the first buyer; a businessman from Saudi Arabia and potential buyers from Japan.

From the onset of the inquiry to purchase the bottle the buyer’s assistant asked that the sale be kept private. In respect to the buyer’s request, the transaction was handled via wire transfer and the bottle was delivered to New York City on November 25th.

When asked his thoughts on having sold the first bottle from the series, Winemaker Joseph DeMaria was quoted as saying “The 2000 Chardonnay Icewine has definitely proven itself in the international competition circuit. I am very pleased by the response this icewine has received thus far. Although this bottle sold for $30,000.00 I anticipate the pricepoint being $500,000.00 by the time we have 1 bottle left.”

The Royal DeMaria 2000 Chardonnay Icewine has won Gold four times at the world’s most prestigious competition, Les Citadelles du Vin, VinExpo, Bordeaux, France, for the last 2 years it has won Gold for the best Chardonnay in the world at Chardonnay du Monde, Burgundy, France, it has been involved in 4 of the 7 international world wine records currently held by the winery, and it was one of the 6 icewines given to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth during the Jubilee Visit to Canada in 2002.

When asked how such a pricepoint can be justified for a 375ml bottle of Canadian icewine Joseph DeMaria smiled and said, “Oh that’s easy, credibility, reputation and demand. And let’s not forget Canada is notorious for producing the worlds’ finest icewines.”
